As you may or may not know from a previous post I MAY be considering selling / trading my Sea Dweller.

I won't go into the whys, where for's, should I or shouldn't I's here but nuff to say it's not certain although I'm considering owning a couple or more in it's place.

I'd very much appreciate pics and input regarding owning experience on the following please. I'm also interested in seeing or hearing about them on straps as well as bracelets along with pro's / cons etc.

The watches are...

1/ New Speedy 44.25mm Coaxial with date (with or without enamel dial)

2/ Speedy "Sapphire sandwich"

3/ Speedy 50th "Patch"

4/ Planet Ocean 42mm (preff black bezel/orange numbers)

5/ SMP black "Bond" Coaxial

Regarding the Speedy 44.25mm Coaxial, is the price difference between the standard and enamel dial huge?

This is my first post to this forum, and I did do some searching and read the FAQ, so hopefully this is not a noob post that has been answered previously...

With that disclaimer out of the way....here is my question.

I have a Speedmaster Automatic, about 8 years old, that needs service. I had to do an emergency car wash on my wife's car with a high-pressure hose, and forgot to take my watch off. (A special thanks to the lazy-a** painter who left that open paint can in the back of his truck!)

Anyway, the next day, there was some condensation on the inside of the crystal. Now, about 48 hours later...it appears to be gone, but I figure that I should have the watch checked out. Still keeping time just fine. It hasn't been serviced in about 3 years. That last service was done by Leo Hamel in San Diego, when the watch started picking up time for no reason. Since then, no problems until yesterday with the condensation.

So, the questions are:

1 - who would be recommended service centers in the Bay Area?

2 - Or, should I send the watch to Omega? I am guessing that takes a LONG time and will be the most expensive option. Any thoughts?

3 - what is the approximate cost of a typical service for these watches? I recall that my Leo Hamel repair was about $375. Is that about the going rate?

Any feedback on my situation would be great. Thanks in advance.

Last year the Swatch Group’s net profit exceeded the one billion franc mark for the first time (1,015 million francs / 959 million USD's), an increase of 22.3% compared to the 830 million recorded in 2006. Operating profit meanwhile increased by 27.0% to 1,236 million on turnover – published in January (see Revue FH n°2 of 31 January 2008, p. 13) - of 5,941 million (+17.6%).

By sector of activity, operating profit rose sharply in the production of movements and watch components (+59.9% to 235 million on turnover of 1,684 million). The result was also excellent in the watch and jewellery sector with an increase of 24.7% to 920 million on turnover of 4,710 million, while the electronic systems sector saw its profitability fall by 6.6% to 99 million on sales of 630 million.

In the light of these excellent results, the group’s Board of Directors decided to propose to the General Meeting, scheduled to take place on 21 May this year, an increase in dividends of 21.4% to 4.25 francs per bearer share and 0.85 franc per registered share.

Regarding forecasts for 2008, the group notes in an official statement published on 14 March that "the strong trend of the 2007 financial year has been maintained in January and February 2008". Consequently it is counting this year on a further increase in turnover together with enhanced profitability, despite the current negative impact of exchange rates.

.....in the east or west and somewhere in the far reaches of my mind, I seem to have this notion that more watches up to around the mid-70s had a combined date and day window which I had always found to be more useful.

If you look at the Connie our friend Mr SP put up today, this is very evident as on my erstwhile and sadly, snatched Gold Connie which was similar to this one

Now if I had 10K to spare, I know what I'd do.....

Sadly though these days one has usually to be content with just the date window. On some watches as you know, you are rather encouraged to refer to your cellphone, computer and for those who still use them, filofax thingies......does anyone remember them?



What do you think pals about the day/date window? Is or was it a figment of my imagination or did we use to see more of them?

In fact, would you like to have both the date and day windows on watches or do you consider the day window to unnecessarily clog up the dial?

So here's the story...

I passed the Omega AD near my home (about 15 miles) yesterday, which is a small one that carries several other brands as well like Cartier and Mont Blanc (they're nice by the way) just to name a few...

Have visited them a couple of times in the past, last time to check out the Hour Vision, and have always been greeted by the older shop owner. Well yesterday I wanted to check out the blue SMP again, and was greeted by a nice lady. They don't have the automatic version in stock but they do have the quartz, as well as the Limited Bond Edition.

Best prices for this particular model can be found at the US, but a large Omega AD at Antwerp quoted me a great price a couple of weeks ago. Since I've decided not to travel to the US, I was planning to take their offer next time I'd go to Antwerp.

After some talking with the extremely nice lady, who turned out to be the daughter of the owner, she was able to offer me the same price as that other AD... How could I resist

Since she was able to give me a great deal, and she wasn't wearing a wedding ring, I offered to take her out for dinner... So tomorrow evening you won't be seeing me over here

I've never used a safe or anything like that. Mind you the most I've ever had of expensive watches at any one time has been three. Beaters and non-runners do not count obviously.
